Privacy

Arun Search is a private, self-hosted metasearch instance. It is run for personal use on infrastructure controlled by its operator.

What is not collected

• No user accounts, no login, no tracking cookies.
• No search history is stored or associated with you.
• No advertising, analytics, fingerprinting or third-party trackers are loaded.
• Your IP address is not shared with the upstream search engines.

How a search works

When you search, this server queries upstream engines on your behalf and merges the results. The upstream engines see a request from this server, not from your browser or your IP address.

Image thumbnails are proxied through this server, so your browser never contacts the image host directly.

What is stored

• Preferences. Any settings you change on the Preferences page are stored in a cookie in your own browser. They are never sent anywhere else, and clearing your cookies removes them.
• Abuse protection. To keep the instance usable, a rate limiter holds a short-lived, in-memory record of request counts per network. It is not linked to queries and is not retained.
• Server logs. The reverse proxy keeps standard operational web-server logs. They are used only to keep the service running and secure.

Third parties

Search results come from independent upstream engines, each with its own privacy policy. Following a result link takes you to a site this instance does not control. Links are sent with rel="noreferrer" so the destination is not told where you came from.

Encryption

All traffic to this instance is served over HTTPS. Plain HTTP requests are redirected.

Software

This instance runs SearXNG, free software licensed under the AGPL-3.0.
